It was originally published soon after his death in a Chinese prison camp. Concerned with the role of the Holy Spirit in the life of Christians, it remains a classic of twentieth-century spirituality. As Fr. Benedict Groeschel writes in his introduction, "It offers an insight into the soul of a man who was eventually to pay for his spiritual convictions with his life. In some ways it also gives an insight into the entire missionary effort of the American Catholic Church in the first part of the twentieth century."
