Building Peace in a Changing World: Investing in Peace When the World Pays for War

Building peace is now more essential than ever. Conflicts are on the rise; peace agreements are under strain; and the governance and financing systems the world relies on to address these challenges are also under pressure. Given these constraints, peacebuilding, in the multilateral context, represents a largely politically consensual and cost-effective solution to many peace and security challenges, and a promising alternative to costly, short-term mitigation. And yet, peacebuilding efforts remain under-financed and their impact little documented or communicated. Realizing the potential of peacebuilding requires political commitment and engagement at the national level, accompanied by sustained international support. Strengthening the support system for peacebuilding will require a leap forward in capturing, measuring and communicating what peacebuilding has actually achieved. From policy guidance to real-life examples and tools, this report sparks an urgent conversation and proposes concrete pathways for the global peacebuilding community to rise to the challenges of our time.
